So, we're discussing zip programs in a thread on TMF's HWTSC board and gridert says, "Personally, I prefer Tar and GZip."
So, I go pokin' 'round lookin' for some gzip info and come across...
www.gzip.org
...which has a link to Mark Adler's site...
http://alumnus.caltech.edu/~madler
...and he seems like an interesting kinda guy. I follow a link from his site to the Info-Zip site...
www.info-zip.org
...and from there follow a link to Hunter Goatley's site...
www.goatley.com/hunter
...poke around there a bit and find his "Windows 2000 Software Links for the OpenVMS User" page...(... down there ↓ ...)...
www.goatley.com/hunter/w2k.html
...and then decide to e-mail him last night to suggest both Rainlendar and Foxit Reader as replacements for Calendar 2000 and Acrobat Reader.
We've written back and forth several times now...Nice guy Hunter. Has had the Online nickname of GoatHunter ever since 1986..Funny story there.
If any of y'all ever have any OpenVMS issues, he'd be the guy I'd rec for help. :-)
Windows 2000 Software Links for the OpenVMS User by Hunter Goatley - I've been a die-hard VMS user and programmer since 1984. In my opinion, there is no finer operating system out there that provides the stability and reliability of VMS. VMS systems are my primary systems both at work and at home: all of my mail is read, processed, and delivered by VMS systems, VMS systems serve out my Freeware archives, VMS systems protect my other machines from network attacks, VMS systems host my web pages, etc. In addition to programming on VMS for a living, I also work on freeware products and maintain a huge archive of VMS freeware, which is hosted by my employer, Process Software.* Hunter has a nice collection of Win 2k software, a similarily interesting taste in music, and is an Info-Zip People. He's purty cool to chat with by e-mail too...Nice guy.

I recently joined CPU Mag's Folding @ Home Team and am asking that y'all consider doing the same. This is for a worthy cause and if your computer runs during the day while you're not using it, why not put those extra CPU cycles to good use? You can even run multiple instances of the program if you have a Dual-Core CPU and/or an ATI Graphics Card.
Get Exposed to a World-Class Education, or at least be exposed to material taught in world-class universities and elsewhere...Says Peter Loshin in this month's CPU Magazine, page 83
I can't re-write the whole article and the site is subscription-based, so I'm just gonna provide the links he offers...

There are several "headings" listed and under "More" is one for "Educational";

However, Peter doesn't say "what" he uses for search terms when looking for "educational class offerings" or whatever...??? However, using a school/university name would probably help.
